Dayton Habitat not part of pil

DAYTON -- The Dayton affiliate of Habitat for Humanity was not selected as a pilot project for a new initiative aimed at rebuilding crumbling neighborhoods in urban communities, its executive director said Friday, July 2.

Instead, Dayton Habitat will join 162 of its peers across the country as a "working group" that will be phased into Habitat's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative in six months, said Diane Graham, executive director for Dayton Habitat.

"I was very hopeful, but they said the next phase would roll out in six months and to me that's a blink of an eye," Graham said.

Habitat for Humanity International announced this week the affiliates it selected for the working group, saying they will receive training and guidance on how to revitalize communities through a variety Cheap Jordan Shoes of housing solutions and community development efforts. Once implemented, the initiative's services could include rehabilitation of vacant and foreclosed properties, house repairs for low-income homeowners, and weatherization to make houses more energy-efficient and affordable.

Until then, Graham said she would like to start similar efforts as soon as possible, given the plight of Dayton's housing stock and low-income homeowners. "I am hopeful we're going to have a program, though," Graham said. "That's the way we have to look at it."
