Conrady leaving UTC hoops

"No staff listed for this season."

That's the curious six-word explanation for a blank page where the 2010-2011 men's basketball staff is supposed to be found on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's official athletics website -- .

Yet in the case of 2009-2010 associate head coach David Conrady, that wording couldn't be more accurate. Conrady has left the Mocs to become the national director of basketball for SCORE International, the Chattanooga-based mission organization that uses athletics to spread the gospel.

"I have Replica watches resigned my position at UTC," said Conrady, who has been with head coach John Shulman for each of his six seasons at the school.

"Twenty-three years ago I went on a SCORE mission trip to Argentina with Coach (Ron) Bishop and it changed my life. It opened my eyes to the role of the servant leader and I hope to open today's kids' eyes to that same role in serving the Lord."

Bishop, now the president of SCORE International, said of Conrady, "I've known David since 1985 when he was playing for Furman and I was doing television commentary on Southern Conference games. I think David was born to do exactly what he's going to be doing. He'll represent SCORE at the Final Four, at coaching conventions, anywhere he believes he can help our mission trips with coaches and players. He'll also be involved in the lives of many more young people than he is now."

Conrady's departure continues a year of turnover for Shulman, who has already parted company with players Ridge McKeither, Jasper Williams and Dante Harvey -- who were all expected to play important minutes -- and must now replace his most experienced coach.

Though unavailable for comment, Shulman is expected to name current Tennessee-Martin assistant and former Ole Miss assistant Jay Bowen in the days to come.

For his part, Bowen might want to make sure that Georgetown transfer Omar Wattad is really not the only returning Moc, since he's the only bio currently filed under the "players" section for the upcoming season on the school website.

Ironically, it was a couple of former Mocs who helped make Conrady's first experience with SCORE and Bishop such a positive one.

"Lance Fulse and (the late) Cornelius Crank were on that trip with me," said Conrady, who captained Furman for three seasons. "At Replica watches halftime of the games we played we'd share the Gospel. Just to see how attentive those people were, how starved they were to find hope, was so powerful. SCORE gives me the opportunity to not just impact the 15 kids we have at UTC, but greatly increases my chances to impact young people across the globe."

Said Bishop, "This is a great day for SCORE International."

And another uncertain one for UTC hoops.
